think obama -- i think obama signaling in that interview that he would pursue a constitutional amendment. basically he's saying it's not going to happen anytime soon, he's saying that i'm going to go door the door on this, and i'm going to make this a rallying cry as a way of organizing support for my side. and the polls, some polls suggest there's real, you know, you could win people over by that. you say, look, these guys are getting taken care of because -- i mean, it used to be, this election's a little different, but it used to be just in the last few cycles that that was a bipartisan rallying cry, right? i'm with the common man. republicans would say it, john mccain ran outen to a large extent in 2008, i'm against the powers that be in washington, i'm against the special interests in washington. so there's real potential, i think, for one party to really take this as a baton and use this as a way of mobilizing people. >> if i could just add to that. i mean, i think at the same time the bipartisan ground has disappeared, it has become a much bigger issue among democrats. not only on

and he went after barack obama every way he could, and holding him accountable for the obama record. we haven't seen that too much in this campaign. there's been so many personal attacks. so many back and forth. he was able to say, look, this is what you promised four years ago. where is the gap here? most importantly, he's able to say, this is the choice i'm offering. and he was able to control this debate. >> did you think that romney will see a bounce coming out of this, the way that obama had a bounce coming out of the convention, in charlotte, with bill clinton's famous speech? >> he is looking for a comeback moment. what happens next is going to be important. he's going to be giving a speech on foreign policy. he'll be asked about this in interviews in the coming days. if he can build on this, yes. he will start to close the gap. the romney campaign, just happened just at the right moment for them to capitalize on something. knowing you have five weeks left. there's a couple of turns left. >> the nex presidential debate, tuesday, october 16th. >> thanks, rick. >> thank you, guy

money to obama in 2008. now he has decided that obama hates treasurys so he gives a lot of money to romney. he is still a donor. he has a lot of interest either way. i do not really care about that distinction. and frankly, i actually found it quite shocking to see governor romney in a speech taking a set of positions about the middle east that, to say the least, box him in in a way presidents do not usually want to be boxed in. it was a rather tight commitment that mitt romney made with that donor in the front row. i am troubled by that, and i have an argument with a friend of mine. he has other priorities as well. i do not think it matters. you want to create a structure where elected officials are not wholly dependent on a given donor or not largely dependent. you want them to be in a situation where if they are in office and they really want x, y, z, you want the elected officials to go as senator mccain seriously did "get out of my office." >> so, there i would make the republican plea for judicial mode

obama angry and describing him as having an accent. it's not subtle but i'm sure they think it's great politics. so tonight has been an unsettled big night. tomorrow night is going to make tomorrow look like a traffic camera on a desert highway. i'll be here in new york. chris matthews will be in denver.
